Route Returns gives merchants the flexibility to create automated workflows that streamline how returns are handled—based on specific criteria set by you. And now, we’ve made workflows even more powerful with multiple condition logic.
What Are Workflows?
Workflows are simple rules you can set up that tell Route Returns how to treat certain return requests based on conditions you define. For example:
If an order tag equals "Final Sale" → Then make the order ineligible for return.
This kind of logic helps automate your return policies, making your return experience more consistent and efficient.
Introducing: Multiple Condition Workflows
Previously, you could only add one condition to a workflow. Now, with multiple condition workflows, you can stack conditions together for more specific return policies.
Here's the key:
These conditions use AND logic.
That means all the conditions in the workflow must be true for the action to occur.
Example:
If Order Tag equals "Final Sale"
AND Order Created At is between Jan 1 and Jan 31
→ Then make the order ineligible for return.
In this example, only final sale orders made in January will be blocked from returning.
Why This Matters
Multiple condition workflows give you more granular control and flexibility. You can now tailor return rules around:
- Sales campaigns (e.g. “winter sale” items purchased in December)
- Product launches
- Promotional time windows
- Tag combinations
- Geographic criteria
- And much more
You can mix and match fields like:
- Order tags
- Purchase dates
- Product SKU
- Fulfillment status
- ...and more.
💡 There is no limit to how many conditions you can include in a workflow.
Real-World Use Cases
Need some inspiration? Here are a few ideas:
❄ Seasonal Sales:
If order tag = “Winter Sale” AND created between Nov 20 – Dec 31 → ineligible for return.
🧪 Beta Product Returns:
If SKU equals “SKU001” AND fulfillment date is equal to or less than “January 10th” → require manual approval.
🛍 Final Sale With Exceptions:
If order tag = “Final Sale” AND shipping country code is not “CA” → ineligible for return.
How to Set Up a Multi-Condition Workflow
- Go to Returns > Workflows in your Route dashboard.
- Click Add Workflow.
- Choose a name for your workflow.
- Choose your trigger condition(s).
- Click Add Condition to stack more rules.
- Set the desired action (e.g., “Order ineligible for return”).
- Enable and Save the workflow.
That’s it—you’re now running with smarter, more targeted return logic.
