The Honor Discount setting gives Route merchants control over how discounts are treated during exchanges and refunds. This is a configurable internal setting that can be enabled or customized by Route staff upon request.

⚙ What Is the Honor Discount Setting?
When customers return items, the Honor Discount setting determines whether or not the discount applied at the time of purchase will impact the value they can exchange for.
Route offers three configuration modes:
🟢 ALWAYS
Discounts are always honored.
- This means that even if an item was purchased at a discounted price, the customer will be able to exchange it based on the original item price, not the discounted price.

Example:
If a $50 item was sold with a 10% discount (total paid = $45), the customer will be able to exchange it for an item worth up to $50. - Important: Route does not replicate the discount percentage (e.g., 10%). Instead, it matches the discounted value (e.g., $5), allowing for a fair exchange without giving away unintended discounts.
🔴 NEVER
Discounts are never honored.
- The exchange value is strictly tied to the actual amount paid.

Example:
A customer who paid $45 for a $50 item (due to a discount) will only be able to exchange for $45 worth of goods.
This setting offers tighter control over pricing and prevents customers from gaining more value than they originally paid.
🟡 HYBRID
Discounts are conditionally honored—based on Shopify order tags.
- This setting allows merchants to honor discounts only when specific Shopify tags are present on the order.
- If the tag is applied, the system behaves like the ALWAYS setting.
- If the tag is not present, the system behaves like the NEVER setting.
This is ideal for merchants who want granular control, perhaps only honoring discounts for VIP customers, promotional campaigns, or manual override scenarios.
✅ When Should I Use This?
- ALWAYS is useful for merchants who want to maximize customer satisfaction by offering generous exchange policies.
- NEVER is best for merchants who need strict financial reconciliation or are running narrow-margin operations.
- HYBRID offers the most flexibility for merchants managing high-volume or high-complexity return operations with varying discount policies.
