How to exclude Route from discounts on Shopify

As a reminder, Route Shipping Protection is an optional service that protects your customers' packages from loss, theft, and damage while in transit. Our Shipping Protection offering is displayed on your customer’s cart and/or checkout page, along with the price of our service, calculated as a flat fee or a percentage of the customer’s order subtotal. The price of our Shipping Protection accounts for any discounts to products or collections offered on your Shopify store.

As a service, however, Route Shipping Protection should never be discounted itself. 

Below is an example of how a customer’s cart will appear when the discount is created correctly. As you can see, the snowboard is discounted, while the price of Route Shipping Protection is not.

 

To set up discounts correctly so that Route Shipping Protection is not accidentally discounted at checkout on your store’s Shopify platform you must:  

    1. Never use the “Amount Off Order” discount type when creating a discount.
    2. When creating “Amount Off Products” and “Buy X Get Y” discount types, ensure Route Shipping Protection is not included in any collections that the discount will be applied to.

Please Note: Shopify does not allow you to edit the discount type for any existing discounts. If you are currently using an “Amount Off Order” on your store, you will need to create a new discount using “Amount Off Products” or “Buy x Get Y” to correctly offer Route Shipping Protection to your customers.

1. Create a discount in Shopify

      1. Log into your Shopify Admin
      2. On the left-side menu, click Discounts
      3. On the top right corner, click + Add Discount
      4. From the discount type menu, select Amount Off Products or Buy X Get Y or Free Shipping

      5. Fill in discount details

Note: When adding collections that the discount should apply to, verify that Route Shipping Protection is not included in those collections (instructions below).

      1. Click Save

 

2. Verify that Route is not included in any discounted collections

      1. From the left-side menu, select Products
      2. Search “Route” > Click on Route Shipping Protection
      3. Under Product Organization, find the Collections section
      4. If Route is included in any collections that will be discounted, click the “X” on the collection tag to remove Route from the collection
