How to hide Package Protection by Route as a product in my store

Shopify requires that every item in the cart be an actual product in your store. This means Route Package Protection has to exist as a product listing so customers can pay for package protection at checkout. However, this can cause Route to appear alongside your real products when customers browse your store.

Do I need to do anything?

Visit your "Shop All" or "All Products" page. If you see Route Package Protection listed there, follow the steps below. Also check any product recommendations or upsell sections of your storefront — if Route is appearing there, follow the steps below as well.

Option 1: Set the Route product to Unlisted (recommended)

The simplest fix is to set the Package Protection by Route product to "Unlisted" in Shopify. This removes it from collections, search results, and your storefront — but the Route widget can still add it to the cart.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Products.
  2. Select Package Protection by Route.
  3. Under Status, change the product status to Unlisted.
  4. Save your changes.

Note: By default, the Route product is created with an Unlisted status. Some brands who have been with Route since before Oct 2025 may still have the product set as Active. Simply update to unlisted.

Option 2: Manually exclude the Route product from collections, third-party apps, or services

Unlisted status will generally hide Route from all shopper facing flows. However, if you use a third-party search or product recommendations app that isn't integrated with the unlisted product status functionality, then the app might still display your unlisted products in its search or recommendations results. If that is the case, you will want to work directly with the app or service that is showing Route to find their options for excluding specific products. Most apps support product tags, collection filters, or workflows that can exclude specific SKUs.

For product collection exclusions, we recommend product vendor is not equal to Route for removing it from automated collections.
