Recap: Why not offer insurance yourself? You are free to eat the cost of goods that are lost, damaged or stolen by providing a refund or replacement product to consumers, but you cannot legally charge a fee for that protection unless you are licensed to sell insurance and are selling a bonafide insurance product backed by a licensed insurance company.
